China for first time publicizes ICBM exercise after media report about strikes on U.S. cities
The Chinese military has published a news account with photos of a live drill involving the new DongFeng-31 Intercontinental Ballistic Missile.
The DF-31 has sufficient range to reach targets in the continental U.S.
This is the first time since entering the PLA service in 2006 that the DF-31s have been seen in public.
DF-31 is a three-stage, solid fuel-powered long range ballistic missile, with a range of 5,000 miles, capable of carrying a single one-megaton nuclear warhead.
