This amazing new concept emulates the movie Pacific Rim by allowing you to pilot aircraft with your mind

Mind-control or drifting is used in the movie Pacific Rim to great effect
If you loved the concept of ‘drifting’ that was used to great effect in the recent science fiction movie Pacific Rim then you’ll really love what Steve Castellotti and his team at Puzzlebox have come up with.
In the film, the plot focuses on how it’s possible to pilot giant robots known as Jaegers using the power of brain synchronisation in order to help save the planet in archetypal sci-fi fashion. This method in the movie basically works by employing a two-pilot system, all of which adds up to lots of fun and games during the course of 130 minutes or so.

Steve Castellotti showcases his brain-powered concept on Kickstarter
In a slightly less ostentatious but infinitely more believable move, the US innovations company Puzzlebox has developed its own brainwave coordinated mini-helicopters, which can be controlled using no hands and the power of your own grey matter. While the connection with Pacific Rim is a tenuous one designed to promote the DVD and Blu-ray release of the movie on 11 November, there’s no doubting that this is still a very cool and highly innovative idea.

Puzzlebox’s chief, Steve Castellotti, demonstrates the concept on the US show Varney & Co
The brain-controlled helicopter concept was originally developed and financed via a Kickstarter project, which secured nearly $75,000 last year to push the concept forward. Puzzlebox, meanwhile is a San Francisco-based innovations outfit that has been writing and releasing Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) software to help control not only helicopters but robots and wheelchairs too.
While the brain-controlled helicopter flying experience is clearly a fun one, there is a serious mission behind what Puzzlebox is doing. The overall goal, states Puzzlebox, is to explore an open approach to BCI technology. This could eventually lead to us being able to control all manner of everyday items using our minds, rather than our fingertips. Ideal if your hands are often full – think of opening the front door when you’re returning home with the shopping or putting the bins out when you’re cozying up on the sofa. The possibilities are endless…

Putting the bins out using your mind could be just one bonus of brain power in the future
The Puzzlebox crew and these amazing little brain-powered helicopters will be on show at the forthcoming Gadget Show Live, which runs from 1 to 3 November at Earls Court in London.
This technology it seems is ready almost to go mainstream.
