Kerry discusses missile shield in Poland
Kerry arrived in Warsaw on Monday and greeted by US Ambassador to Poland Stephen Mull.
The United States plans to deploy dozens of SM-3 interceptors in Romania and Poland until 2018.
"Poland is an important part of the European Phased Adaptive Approach to the NATO missile defense, and we will deploy a missile defense site in Poland in the 2018 time frame," State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said last week.
"Poland is the largest commercial partner of the United States in Central Europe, and the United States is one of the top sources of foreign investment in Poland,” she added.
The top US diplomat is expected to discuss troop pullouts from Afghanistan and ways of increasing bilateral economic cooperation when he is meeting with Polish officials.
On Tuesday, Kerry will meet with Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski.
Kerry visited Egypt and Saudi Arabia before arriving in Poland and he is expected to travel to Israel next.
His trip is the first visit by a high-ranking American official to Europe since the spying scandal revelations against European leaders.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande were among leaders who had their phones tapped by the US National Security Agency, which is believed to have collected data on millions of Europe-based phone calls.
