RUSSIAN BOMBERS INTERCEPTED OVER U.S. TERRITORY OF GUAM
The Air Force has confirmed that on the night of Obama's State of the Union address (SOTU), U.S. fighter jets had to be scrambled and sent up in response to two Russian bombers circling the U.S. territory of Guam.
The fighter jets intercepted Russian Tu-95s bombers, which then departed to the north.
No further action was taken, and the only other detail given was that the bombers were likely "equipped with nuclear-tipped cruise missiles."
Approximately 200 U.S. Marines were training on Guam at the time.
The island's military base is key to Obama's "new pivot to Asia" policy. Reports indicate this initiative has literally put Guam in the cross hairs of China and North Korea.
The Russian bombers were met by U.S. F-15s shortly before Obama's SOTU began.
