JAKARTA: Hundreds of thousands of Indonesians were ordered to evacuate Friday after a volcano on the main island of Java erupted spectacularly, hurling red hot ash and rocks over a huge distance.

The alert status for Mount Kelud, considered one of the most dangerous volcanoes on densely populated Java, was raised late Thursday just hours before it began erupting.

TV pictures showed ash and rocks raining down on nearby villages as terrified locals fled in cars and on motorbikes towards evacuation centres.

National disaster agency spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said that some 200,000 people from 36 villages in a 10-kilometre area around Kelud, in Kediri district in eastern Java, were being asked to evacuate.

"A rain of ash, sand and rocks is reaching up to 15 kilometres from the volcano's crater," he said.

"Sparks of light can be continuously seen at the peak."

The 1,731-metre Mount Kelud has claimed more than 15,000 lives since 1500, including around 10,000 deaths in a massive 1568 eruption.

It is one of some 130 active volcanoes in Indonesia, which sits on the Pacific Ring of Fire, a belt of seismic activity running around the basin of the Pacific Ocean.

Earlier this month another volcano, Mount Sinabung on western Sumatra island, unleashed an enormous eruption, leaving at least 16 people dead.

Sinabung has been erupting on an almost daily basis since September, coating villages and crops with volcanic ash and forcing tens of thousands out of their homes.

NATIONAL GUARD TRAINS TO FIGHT 'ANTI-GOVERNMENT' AMERICANS

Internal documents from an Ohio Army National Guard training drill conducted in January 2013 describe the details of a mock disaster in which Second Amendment supporters with “anti-government” beliefs were portrayed as domestic terrorists.

The Guard’s 52nd Civil Support Unit and first responders in hazmat suits conducted the training exercise last year in Portmouth, Ohio. In the terror-attack scenario, two Portsmouth Junior High School teachers follow orders from a white-nationalist leader to poison school lunches with mustard gas to advance their “right-wing” beliefs about gun rights.

“It’s the reality of the world we live in,” Portsmouth Police Chief Bill Raisin told WSAZ-TV. “Don’t forget there is such a thing as domestic terrorism. This helps us all be prepared.”

The TV station’s website described the drill as “timely.”

“Two school employees who are disgruntled over the government’s interpretation of the Second Amendment, plot to use chemical, biological and radiological agents against members of the local community.”

MediaTrackers.org recently obtained internal documents outlining the Guard’s disaster drill, which portrays the domestic terrorists as having “anti-government” beliefs and “protecting Gun Rights and Second Amendment rights.”

The documents describe the moments immediately after the attack:

The public health department reports that an unusually large number of individuals are being treated at local hospitals and urgent care facilities with nausea, vomiting, & diarrhea with flu-like symptoms. More concerning is that many of them have irritated red burning skin with blisters.

Scioto County Emergency Management Agency director Kim Carver refused to comment, telling Media Trackers she was “not going to get into an Ohio Army National Guard issue that you have with them.”

Ohio National Guard Communications Director James Sims refused to speak about targeting gun owners in the imaginary scenario.

“OK, I’m gonna stop ya there. I’m going to quit this conversation,” Sims told MediaTrackers.org. “You have a good day.”

However, Buckeye Firearms Association spokesman Chad Baus told MediaTrackers, “It is a scary day indeed when law enforcement are being trained that Second Amendment advocates are the enemy.”

The same Guard unit participated in a similar drill involving left-wing terrorists with Athens County first responders last year. Public officials apologized for that training the next day in response to complaints from local environmentalist groups, reports MediaTrackers.

Why U.S. Dollar Collapse Is Assured

Prepare for cyber war, Iran's supreme leader tells students

Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has urged the country's students to prepare for cyber war, the semi-official Mehr News Agency reported on Wednesday.

Khamenei delivered a message to a university students' association, or his "Revolutionary foster-children," as he called them, reminding them that they are "cyber-war agents" who must prepare for battle, Mehr reported.

"You are the cyber-war agents and such a war requires Ammar-like insight and Malik Ashtar-like resistance," he wrote according to Mehr, referring to two Prophet’s companions in early Islamic history. "Get yourselves ready for such war wholeheartedly."

Also Wednesday, Iran's Chief of Staff, General Hassan Firouzabadi, said his country is ready for a "decisive battle" with the U.S. and Israel, and dismissed threats against Tehran as "political bluffing."

“If any war is launched against Iran, we won’t give any ground to the enemy and they themselves know this very well," he said, according to Iran's semi-official Fars news agency.

He stressed that Tehran has made sure it is prepared for this "battle" against Washington and Tel Aviv by "staging different war games."

Warning: Homeland Security set to purchase license plate tracking

James Smith
Activist Post

Today, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), through Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), have solicited for Commercial-Off-The-Shelf technology that allows DHS employees to track citizens by using license plate tracking readers on government vehicles in a system known as the National License Plate Recognition database (NLPR).

DHS/ICE intend to track license plate numbers that are passed through the camera’s range, or are entered into the database by repossession companies and others. This data is then shared with all law enforcement, as there are no limits placed within the solicitation.

Law enforcement officers will be able to search the NLPR database, presumably for an investigation; however, safeguards are frequently bypassed with regards to LEO access to LEDS/NCIC access. License plate tracking will be the next LEO abuse.

The officers will be able to determine where and when the vehicle has traveled, and is touted as providing an extra layer of “Officer Safety” to allow for arrests away from a suspect’s residence. It is further espoused that this will reduce needed man-hours to conduct surveillance.

LICENSE PLATE TRACKING

Presumably, this is just for Homeland Security. But the truth of the matter is that this system is to be used by every law enforcement agency within the US.

Data will be compiled from metropolitan areas, which can be searched from Smartphones, such as the Android/iPhone/BlackBerry that are currently in use by DHS/ICE, thus allowing for license plate pictures to be taken, and uploaded – cross referenced and then sent to alert the officer/agent of a positive match.

While the government would insist on Originating Agency Identifiers (ORI), the solicitation requests:

The Government would prefer the ability of the NLPR data service to allow communication between users (anonymously, via alias, or with full identity) to share information amongst the User group based on specific “Hot-List” “Target Vehicle” records. And DHS/ICE would like to keep some agencies out of the loop, by being able to conduct searches anonymously so that other law enforcement agencies may not have access.

Local police departments have been using plate readers, primarily to locate stolen vehicles or absconders from justice. There is even a Grant Assistance for agencies to purchase license plate readers from ELSAG North America.

The following is a partial list of agencies that currently use plate readers:

Denver and Colorado Springs, CO
South Portland, MN
Gwinnett, Douglas and Cherokee counties in Georgia
Clinton, CT
Newark, Albany County, N.Y
Ann Arbor, MI
Portsmouth, VA
Norwalk, CT
Louisville, KYAll of these agencies, and about 40 more, will be adding their photographs to the next monster database.

Do not kid yourself. This is tracking of an individual that can be accessed at a whim. Yearly, officers are terminated for accessing the LEDS/NCIC database for looking into the histories of ex-lovers, future spouses, and potential sons/daughters-in-law.

And with license plate tracking toy (not a tool), they will know where you are, as long as you have driven into the crosshairs of this new weapon for tyranny.

Europe Considers Wholesale Savings Confiscation, Enforced Redistribution

At first we thought Reuters had been punk'd in its article titled "EU executive sees personal savings used to plug long-term financing gap" which disclosed the latest leaked proposal by the European Commission, but after several hours without a retraction, we realized that the story is sadly true. Sadly, because everything that we warned about in "There May Be Only Painful Ways Out Of The Crisis" back in September of 2011, and everything that the depositors and citizens of Cyprus had to live through, seems on the verge of going continental. In a nutshell, and in Reuters' own words, "the savings of the European Union's 500 million citizens could be used to fund long-term investments to boost the economy and help plug the gap left by banks since the financial crisis, an EU document says." What is left unsaid is that the "usage" will be on a purely involuntary basis, at the discretion of the "union", and can thus best be described as confiscation.
The source of this stunner is a document seen be Reuters, which describes how the EU is looking for ways to "wean" the 28-country bloc from its heavy reliance on bank financing and find other means of funding small companies, infrastructure projects and other investment. So as Europe finally admits that the ECB has failed to unclog its broken monetary pipelines for the past five years - something we highlight every month (most recently in No Waking From Draghi's Monetary Nightmare: Eurozone Credit Creation Tumbles To New All Time Low), the commissions report finally admits that "the economic and financial crisis has impaired the ability of the financial sector to channel funds to the real economy, in particular long-term investment."
The solution? "The Commission will ask the bloc's insurance watchdog in the second half of this year for advice on a possible draft law "to mobilize more personal pension savings for long-term financing", the document said."
Mobilize, once again, is a more palatable word than, say, confiscate.
And yet this is precisely what Europe is contemplating:
Banks have complained they are hindered from lending to the economy by post-crisis rules forcing them to hold much larger safety cushions of capital and liquidity.

The document said the "appropriateness" of the EU capital and liquidity rules for long-term financing will be reviewed over the next two years, a process likely to be scrutinized in the United States and elsewhere to head off any risk of EU banks gaining an unfair advantage.
But wait: there's more!
Inspired by the recently introduced "no risk, guaranteed return" collectivized savings instrument in the US better known as MyRA, Europe will also complete a study by the end of this year on the feasibility of introducing an EU savings account, open to individuals whose funds could be pooled and invested in small companies.
Because when corporations refuse to invest money in Capex, who will invest? Why you, dear Europeans. Whether you like it or not.
But wait, there is still more!
Additionally, Europe is seeking to restore the primary reason why Europe's banks are as insolvent as they are: securitizations, which the persuasive salesmen and sexy saleswomen of Goldman et al sold to idiot European bankers, who in turn invested the money or widows and orphans only to see all of it disappear.
It is also seeking to revive the securitization market, which pools loans like mortgages into bonds that banks can sell to raise funding for themselves or companies. The market was tarnished by the financial crisis when bonds linked to U.S. home loans began defaulting in 2007, sparking the broader global markets meltdown over the ensuing two years.

The document says the Commission will "take into account possible future increases in the liquidity of a number of securitization products" when it comes to finalizing a new rule on what assets banks can place in their new liquidity buffers. This signals a possible loosening of the definition of eligible assets from the bloc's banking watchdog.
Because there is nothing quite like securitizing feta cheese-backed securities and selling it to a whole new batch of widows and orphans.
And topping it all off is a proposal to address a global change in accounting principles that will make sure that an accurate representation of any bank's balance sheet becomes a distant memory:
More controversially, the Commission will consider whether the use of fair value or pricing assets at the going rate in a new globally agreed accounting rule "is appropriate, in particular regarding long-term investing business models".
To summarize: forced savings "mobilization", the introduction of a collective and involuntary CapEx funding "savings" account, the return and expansion of securitization, and finally, tying it all together, is a change to accounting rules that will make the entire inevitable catastrophe smells like roses until it all comes crashing down.
So, aside from all this, Europe is "fixed."
The only remaining question is: why leak this now? Perhaps it's simply because the reallocation of "cash on the savings account sidelines" in the aftermath of the Cyprus deposit confiscation, into risk assets was not foreceful enough? What better way to give it a much needed boost than to leak that everyone's cash savings are suddenly fair game in Europe's next great wealth redistribution strategy.
