Japan fires world's most powerful laser to produce energy equal to 1,000 times the planet's power consumption

Japan claims to have fired the most powerful laser ever created.

Researchers in Osaka were able to produce a 2-petawatt laser beam using a device known as the Laser for Fast Ignition Experiment (LFEX).

The power of the 'Death Star'-like beam is equivalent to 1,000 times the world's total electricity consumption, the scientists claim.

The 328ft (100 metre)-long LFEX device has strategically-placed glass panels that are used to amplify the laser beam. The team were able to produce such a high output by concentrating the power to 1 pico-second, or around a trillionth of a second

While it produced a huge amount of power, the energy required for the beam itself is equivalent to that needed to power a microwave for two seconds.

The team were able to produce such a high output from low energy by only firing the laser beam for 1 pico-second, or a trillionth of a second.

To amplify the beam's power, energy was applied to strategically-placed glass panels along the 328ft (100 metre)-long LFEX device.

These glass lamps were able focus the beam to boost its energy as it passed through.

In the experiment, energy was applied to glass sections using devices similar to fluorescent lamps. These glass lamps were used to boost the energy of the beam as it passed through

HOW POWERFUL IS IT?
The device produced a 2-petawatt - or 2 quadrillion-watt - laser beam.

This is equivalent to 1,000 times the world's electricity consumption.

To put that in context, Rheinmetall Defense was recently able to shoot a drone down a mile away using a 50kW laser.

The 50kW laser was 10 billion times less powerful that the one used in Japan.

Up until today's announcement, the world has only ever within a 1-pettawatt laser created by the University of Texas, Austin.

'With heated competition in the world to improve the performance of lasers, our goal now is to increase our output to 10 petawatts,' said the institute's Junji Kawanaka, an associate professor of electrical engineering at the university

To put that into context, according to Popular Science, a 50,000 watt laser successfully took down a drone just a mile away.

That 50kW laser was 10 billion times less powerful that the one used in Japan.

Up until today's announcement, the world has only ever witnessed a 1-pettawatt laser created by the University of Texas, Austin.

Not only did the Japanese laser generate twice as much power, but the team says it also has 100 times as much energy as its Texas rival.

The laser, liked to the Death Star laser in Star Wars, is currently mainly of scientific interest rather than having any real-world purpose.

Details of the experiment have been published in the journal Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusion.

Obama Allow to Strip You of Right to Travel Without Trial

Image result for Obama Allow to Strip You of Right to Travel Without Trial

Another day, another right lost to the political corruption in Washington. In a move that has garnered almost "no" media attention, the House of Representatives passed HR 237, known as the "FTO (foreign terrorist organization) Passport Revocation Act, which allows the "Obama administration the unilateral power to strip you of your passport and right to travel without a trial or even criminal charges." This piece of legislation did not receive a "recorded vote" due to the "uncontroversial" support and passed after only 15 minutes of "supposed" debate. For anyone caught up in this "web" wrongly, there is no recourse contained in the legislation to "challenge the status as a non-person involuntarily trapped inside US borders by order of the secretary of state."

According to Infowars.com, "Lawmakers, some of whom could themselves be caught in the dragnet along with myriad administration officials, praised the effort as a way to stop alleged terrorists from travelling."

Congress wants to prevent "alleged terrorists" from travelling. Moreover, who does the federal government consider as terrorists? Documents obtained by Judicial Watch indicates the government considers approximately 72 types of US citizens as potential terrorists are while any reference to Islam is conspicuously missing. The White House, aka Ayatollah Obama, declares the unilateral authority to murder by drone or detain American citizens indefinitely without due process, charging them with a crime, or on "alleged" criminal activity.

The federal government wants to prevent "alleged terrorists" from leaving the country; however, this same government allows American citizens who fought with ISIS to return with impunity while claiming to "monitor" these traitors. So, just who is the government trying to keep from leaving? It's not Islamic jihadis.

Americans can thank Rep. Ted Poe (R-TX) for his sponsorship of the bill, which was "adopted under 'suspension of the rules' typically used for trivialities such as renaming post offices." In looking at the bill, it clearly states, "to authorize the revocation or denial of passports and passport cards to individuals affiliated with foreign terrorist organizations, and for other purposes." [Emphasis mine.]

Some who read this bill will say, "Now, Suzanne, you are going off the deep end here with this as it only applies to individuals who aid, abet, assist or help 'an organization the Secretary of State has designated as a foreign terrorist organization'. There's nothing to worry about if we're not helping terrorist organizations."

Well, under any other circumstances with any other Congress, president, Secretary of State prior to say 1990, there might not be cause for worry. However, with the liberal usurpation of unilateral authority to murder with drones and hold US citizens indefinitely without any due process, the stretch to false accusations for nefarious purposes by this administration or anyone in it isn't far. There are no set criteria in this "new" attack on liberty. The terms are undefined and there remains no appeals process. It creates an avenue for widespread abuse by the current Secretary of State, John Kerry, along with future occupants of that office.

Did anything in that document declare that actual evidence had to exist to invoke a passport revocation? The only criteria the document indicated were "whom the Secretary of State has determined ...." Basically, the new legislation, should it pass the Senate and be signed by Ayatollah Obama, could leave citizens stranded outside the United States as well as prevent citizens from leaving based on "secret" evidence or the whim of "one" individual. As a reminder, the NSA maintains a vast database of unlawfully, unconstitutionally gathered communications data on every US citizen that could be "sliced and diced" against targeted individuals to produce an appearance of "criminality" where none exists.

Naturally, Rep. Poe spins his "tapestry" like this. "Daily, deadly attacks around the world remind us that radical Islamic terrorists are spreading their murderous rampage worldwide. The threat to America from these groups has never been greater. But some of our own citizens have traveled to the terrorists hotbeds in Syria and beyond to fight for the other side. These Benedict Arnold traitors who have turned against America and joined the ranks of foreign radical terrorist armies should lose all rights afforded to our citizens."

No one would argue that traitors should lose their rights, but only after following due process, a trial by jury and a finding of guilt for treason or being guilty of being a traitor. However, the determination of revocation of rights by one individual, instead of the due process guaranteed every US citizen in the Constitution, reeks of unilateral, dictatorial power.

The Economic House of Cards, Demand for Gold and Silver Very Very High

Officials: Iran may take own samples at alleged nuclear site

VIENNA — Iran wants its own officials to take soil samples at a site where it is alleged to have experimented with ways to detonate a nuclear weapon, and the UN agency probing the suspicions may agree provided it is allowed to monitor the process, two officials told The Associated Press Tuesday.

The investigation by the International Atomic Energy Agency is part of the overarching nuclear deal reached earlier this month between Iran and six world powers. Iran denies any such work but has agreed to give the IAEA access to the Parchin military complex.

Several US senators cited Obama administration officials last week as saying Iran could conduct its own soil sampling at Parchin. The officials who spoke to the AP said a final agreement has not yet been reached between Iran and the IAEA.

The officials said stringent oversight of the soil-sampling could include video monitoring. They did not say what reasons Iran gave for wanting to take its own samples. The samples would be analyzed by the agency for traces left by any nuclear experiments.

The officials come from IAEA member nations and are tasked with following Iran's nuclear program. They demanded anonymity because their information is confidential. The IAEA had no immediate comment.

David Albright, whose Institute for Science and International Security is often consulted by the US government on proliferation issues, said the IAEA "could instruct Iran in where and how to take the sample, as they would an inspector. They could try to keep a close watch on how Iran follows the instructions."

At the same time, "the IAEA could not exclude Iran tampering with the sample in some way," he said.

China may use microwave weapon against maritime rivals

WB1-150728_copy1

China is likely to deploy its newly designed WB-1 microwave directed energy weapon
against Philippine and Vietnamese vessels in the contested South China Sea, according
to the state run Reference News on July 27.

The WB-1 was originally developed as millimeter-wave beam-projecting non-lethal anti-riot
system by the China Poly Group Corporation based in Beijing. With an effective range of
80 meters, it can project the millimeter-wave beam to heat water molecules below the skin
causing intense pain, the UK-based IHS Jane's Defence Weekly reported in November 2014.

The weapon's attack range can be increased to one kilometer when its transmitting power is
increased.

Reports from the Zhuhai Airshow held in southern China's Guangdong province last year
indicated that Poly was developing the WB-1 for naval applications. To enforce its maritime
claims over the disputed East China and South China seas, China is likely to use WB-1 in
future non-lethal confrontations with Japan, the Philippines and Vietnam.

The weapon could also potentially be used in the People's Liberation Army Navy's
counter-piracy operations.

China Demonstrates "Sea Combat Ability" With Live Fire Drill Video

With China laser focused on propping up its manipulated markets, which over the course of the past month have become the laughing stock of "skeptics" everywhere for exposing just how rigged everything truly is (even as CNBC debates whether it is better to manipulate stocks via central bank QE or, as China is doing it, via direct buying of stocks), it is worth recalling that over the past year China has seen another, just a troublesome situation developing in the form of numerous territorial conflicts in the East and South China Seas primarily due to geopolitical bragging rights and natural resource claims.
As previously reported, China is currently pursuing a rapid program of artificial island construction in the South China Sea, despite being locked in disputes with several countries over its claims to almost the entire area.
And yet, even with Beijing focused on halting the market (and economic) carnage in recent weeks, the politburo found a way to remind its neighbors that China has no intention of allowing its domestic financial volatility derail its territorial expansion. It did so as part of a 10 day maritime training exercise which started last week, which culminating overnight when China’s navy carried out a "live firing drill" in the South China Sea to improve its maritime combat ability, state media has reported as tensions flare over the disputed waters.
According to the Guardian, the exercise on Tuesday involved at least 100 naval vessels, dozens of aircraft, missile launch battalions of the Second Artillery Corps and information warfare troops, Xinhua news agency said, citing navy sources.
It added that dozens of missiles and torpedoes, as well as thousands of shells and jamming bombs, were fired during the drill, which tested the navy’s air defense and early warning system. It also “improved its ability to react quickly”, Xinhua said.
China has rapidly expanded its navy in recent years, commissioning its first aircraft carrier in 2012 and adding to its submarine and surface fleets.
This is happening after last week Japan slammed Beijing’s bid to reclaim land there as a “coercive attempt” to make sweeping maritime claims that come as Tokyo is expanding the role of its own military. Ironically for the Abe cabinet, which indirectly asserts that its military expansion mandate is in response to threats from potential local foes (i.e., China), its recent resurgence in military ambitions resulted in Abe's cabinet recording its first majority disapproval rating of its tenure.

Unlike largely pacifist Japan, in China increasing militarism merely leads to a boost in "rally around the flag" morale, and greater patriotic support for the government.
Which is probably also why China was eager to release at least one clip showcasing its latest naval "live fire" military capabilities, as shown on the recording below.
