Microsoft just added a new word to the English lexicon – holoportation. That’s a word you are going to be hearing a lot in the coming months. According to the Microsoft development website, Holoportation is a new type of 3D capture technology that allows high-quality 3D models of people to be reconstructed, compressed and transmitted anywhere in the world in real time. When combined with mixed reality displays such as HoloLens, this technology allows users to see, hear, and interact with remote participants in 3D as if they are actually present in the same physical space. Communicating and interacting with remote users becomes as natural as face-to-face communication.

In the last entry we concluded with an article by the Daily Mail (“Meet the Nano-Spiders: The dna Robots that Could One Day Be Walking through Your Body”) reporting on the creation by scientists of microscopic robots made of dna molecules that can walk, turn, and even create tiny products of their own on a nano-scale assembly line. This feature is important because a few years back, my wife Nita brought up a point that I had never considered. She asked if the biblical mark of the Beast might be a conspiracy employing specific implantable technology only now available. 

Her theory was gripping. An occult elite operating behind the U.S. government devises a virus that is a crossover between human and animal disease—let’s say, an entirely new and highly contagious influenza mutation—and intentionally releases it into the public. A pandemic ensues, and the period between when a person contracts the virus and death is something like ten days. With tens of thousands dead in a few weeks and the rate of death increasing hourly around the globe, a universal cry for a cure goes out. Seemingly miraculously, the government then steps forward with a vaccine. The only catch, the government explains, is that, given the nature of the animal-human flu, the “cure” uses animal dna and nanobots to rewrite one’s genetics so that the person is no longer entirely human. The point made was that those who receive this antidote would become part “beast,” and perhaps thus the title, “mark of the Beast.” No longer “entirely human” would also mean—according to this outline—that the individual could no longer be “saved” or go to heaven, explaining why the book of Revelation says “whosoever receiveth the mark” is damned forever (while also explaining why the Nephilim, whose dna was part human and part animal, could not be redeemed). If one imagines the global chaos of such a pandemic, the concept of how the Antichrist “causes all,” both small and great, to receive this mark becomes clearer. When looking into the eyes of dying children, parents, or a spouse, it would be incredibly difficult to allow oneself to die or to encourage others to do the same when a “cure” was readily available. Lastly, this scenario would mean that nobody would be allowed to “buy or sell” in the marketplace without the mark-cure due to the need to quarantine all but the inoculated, thus fulfilling all aspects of the mark of the Beast prophecy.

To find out if the science behind this abstract would be as reasonable as it appeared on the surface, we contacted SkyWatch TV Science News Editor, Sharon Gilbert. This was her troubling response:

What is human? Until recently, most of us would readily respond that we are humans. You and I, we might argue, are Homo sapiens: erect, bipedal hominids with twenty-three pairs of matched chromosomes and nifty little thumbs capable of apposition to the palm that enable us to grasp the fine tools that our highly developed, bi-lobed brains devise.

            Humans, we might argue, sit as rulers of the earth, gazing down from the pinnacle of a pyramid consisting of all plant and animal species. We would remind the listener that natural selection and evolution have developed mankind into a superior thinker and doer, thereby granting us royal privilege, if not infinite responsibility. The Bible would take this definition much farther, of course, adding that mankind is the only part of God’s creation formed by His hands, rather than spoken into existence, and that you and I bear God’s unique signature as having been created “in His image” (Genesis 1:27).

            Many members of the “illuminated brotherhood of science” would likely demur to the previous statement. These have, in point of fact, redefined human. Like Shelley’s Modern Prometheus, Victor Frankenstein, today’s molecular magicians play “god” not by stitching together rotting corpses, but by reforming the very essence of our beings: our dna.

            So-called “postmodern man” began as a literary reference but has evolved into an iconic metaphor representing a collective image of perfected humanity beyond the confines of genetic constraints. Transhumanism, also known as the H+ movement (see www.HPlusMagazine.com, for example) envisions a higher life-form yet, surpassing Homo sapiens in favor of Homo sapiens 2.0, a bioengineered construct that fuses man’s original genome with animal and/or synthetic dna.

            While such claims ring of science fiction, they are indeed science fact. For decades, laboratories have created chimeric combinations of animal, plant, and even human dna under the guise of medical research. The stated goal is to better man’s lot by curing disease, but this benign mask hides an inner, sardonic grin that follows an ancient blueprint to blend God’s perfect creature with the seed of fallen angels: “You shall be as gods.”

            You two speak to the heart of the matter when you warn of a day when true humans may receive transhuman instructions via an implant or injection. A seemingly innocuous vaccine or identification “chip” can initiate intracellular changes, not only in somatic or “body” cells but also in germ-line cells such as ova and sperm. The former alters the recipient only; the latter alters the recipient’s doomed descendents as well.

            In my second novel, The Armageddon Strain, I present a device called the “BioStrain Chip” that employs nanotechnology to induce genetic changes inside the carrier’s body. This miracle chip is advertised as a cure for the h5n1/ebola chimera that is released in the prologue to the book. Of course, if you’ve read the novel, then you know the BioStrain chip does far more than “cure”—it also kills.

Though a work of fiction, The Armageddon Strain raises a chilling question: What limitations lie within the payload of a biochip? Can such a tiny device do more than carry digitized information? Could it actually serve as the mark of the Beast?
The answer is yes.

            Dna (Deoxyribonucleic acid) has become the darling of researchers who specialize in synthetic constructs. The “sticky-end” design of the dna double-helix makes it ideal for use in computing. Though an infinite number of polyhedra are possible, the most robust and stable of these “building blocks” is called the double crossover (dx). An intriguing name, is it not? The double-cross.

            Picture an injectible chip comprised of dna-dx, containing instructions for a super-soldier. Picture, too, how this dna framework, if transcribed, might also serve a second, sinister, purpose—not only to instruct, but also to alter.

            Mankind has come perilously far in his search for perfection through chemistry. Although millennia passed with little progress beyond roots, herbs, and alchemical quests for gold from lead, the twentieth century ushered science into the rosy dawn of breathless discovery. Electricity, lighter than air travel, wireless communication, and computing transformed the ponderous pace of the scientific method into a light speed race toward self-destruction.

            By the mid-1950s, Watson and Crick had solved the structure of the dna molecule and the double helix became all the rage. Early gene splicing, and thus transgenics, began in 1952 as a crude, cut-and-paste sort of science cooked up in kitchen blenders and petri dishes—as much accident as inspiration. As knowledge has increased (Daniel 12:4), genetic scientists learned to utilize microbiological “vectors” and sophisticated methods to insert animal or plant genes from one species into another. It’s the ultimate “Mr. Potato Head” game, where interchangeable plastic pieces give rise to an infinite number of combinations; only, in genetic splicing, humanity is the unhappy potato.

            Vectors provide the means of transport and integration for this brave new science. Think of these vectors as biological trucks that carry genetic building materials and workers into your body’s cells. Such “trucks” could be a microsyringe, a bacterium, or a virion (a virus particle). Any entity that can carry genetic information (the larger the load capacity, the better) and then surreptitiously gain entry into the cell is a potential vector. Viruses, for example, can be stripped of certain innate genes that might harm the cell. Not only does this (supposedly) render the viral delivery truck “harmless,” it also clears out space for the cargo.

            Once inside the cell, the “workers” take over. Some of these “workers” are enzymes that cut human genes at specific sites, while others integrate—or load—the “cargo” into appropriate reading frames—like microscopic librarians. Once the payload is stored in the cell’s nuclear “library stacks,” the new genes can be translated, copied, and “read” to produce altered or brand-new, “alien” polymers and proteins.

            The resulting hybrid cell is no longer purely human. If a hybridized skin cell, it may now glow, or perhaps form scales rather than hair, claws rather than fingernails. If a brain cell, the new genetic instructions could produce an altered neurotransmitter that reduces or even eliminates the body’s need for sleep. Muscle cells may grow larger and more efficient at using low levels of calcium and oxygen. Retina cells may encode for receptors that enable the “posthuman being” to perceive infrared or ultraviolet light frequencies. The hybrid ears may now sense a wider range of sounds, taste buds a greater range of chemicals. Altered brains might even attune to metaphysics and “unseen” gateways, allowing communication with supernatural realms.

            Germ-line alterations, mentioned earlier, form a terrifying picture of generational development and may very well already be a reality. Genetic “enhancement” of sperm-producing cells would change human sperm into tiny infiltrators, and any fertilized ovum a living chimera. Science routinely conducts experiments with transgenic mice, rats, chickens, pigs, cows, horses, and many other species. It is naïve to believe humans have been left out of this transgenic equation.

            If so many scientists (funded by government entities) believe in the “promise” of genetic alteration and transgenic “enhancement,” how then can humanity remain human? We cannot. We will not. Perhaps, some have not.

            Spiritually, the enemy has ever sought to corrupt God’s plan. Originally, fallen angels lay with human women to corrupt the original base pair arrangements. Our genome is filled with “junk dna” that seemingly encodes for nothing. These “introns” may be the remains of the corrupted genes, and God Himself may have switched them off when fallen angels continued their program, post-Flood. If so, today’s scientists might need only to “switch them back on” to resurrect old forms such as Gibborim and Nephilim.

            I should point out that not all “trucks” (vectors) deliver their payload immediately. Some operate on a time delay. Cytomegalovirus (cmv) is a common infective agent resident in the cells of many humans today. It “sleeps” in our systems, waiting for a window of opportunity to strike. Recently, genetic specialists began utilizing cmv vectors in transgenic experiments. In 1997, the Fox television program Millennium featured an episode in the second season called “Sense and Antisense” (referring to the two sides of the dna molecule). In this chilling story, a scientist named Lacuna reveals a genetic truth to Frank Black: “They have the map, the map, they can make us go down any street they want to. Streets that we would never even dream of going down. They flip a switch, we go east. They flip another switch, we go north. And we never know we have been flipped, let alone know how.”[i]

            In the final days of this current age, humanity may indeed “flip.” Paul tells us that Christians will be transformed in a moment (1 Corinthians 15:51–53). Is it possible that the enemy also plans an instantaneous “flip”? Are genetic sleeper agents (idling “trucks”) already at work in humanity’s dna, waiting and ready to deploy at the appropriate moment?

            Science is ready. Knowledge has been increased. The spiritual players have taken the stage.

            All we need is the signal. The sign. The injection. The mark. The moment.

            We shall all be changed. Some to incorruptible bodies ready to meet the Lord. Others to corrupted genomes ready to serve the Beast.

Giant Hologram of Turkish Prime Minister Speaks To Supporters.... is this Preparations for Future "Beast" Communication?

Technology has just been bumped up from science fiction to reality, and even scarier, politics!

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan could not attend a party meeting in Izmir last Sunday in person. But, no worries! He had the perfect solution! According to Turkish newspaper Hurriyet, an enormous hologram of himself was transmitted into the party chambers instead.

As the Erdogan hologram glimmered and then materialized, the crowd hooted and hollered while the likeness addressed the audience.

“We are going to elections in the shadow of attacks prepared by treasonous networks. I urge all my mayoral candidates to not waste any of their time,” Erdogan said, according to Hurriyet.

However, Erdogan isn’t the first to use a hologram in politics.

In February of 2011, USA Today Travel States:

In January, the music group Black Eyed Peas performed holographically at an awards show in France. Two small airports in Britain — Manchester and London Luton— have holographic images of staffers explaining security clearance rules. Others to appear via hologram technology in recent years: Former vice president Al Gore, Microsoft founder Bill Gates and British airline and media mogul Richard Branson.

The technology is the latest step in the "telepresence" evolution that's changing the meetings and conventions industry.

In 2012, an Indian politician, Narendra Modi, made use of the same technology as part of a promotion. In his efforts to seek re-election, he successfully broadcasted 26 holograms of himself onto stages across the Indian state of Gujarat.

And on April 15, 2012, the late Tupac Shakur gave a performance from beyond the grave at the Coachella Music Festival in California.

In a vision of the end times, the Apostle John was shown a mysterious facet of mankind’s apocalyptic culture. He saw that an actual political leader would arise called the “beast,” (Revelation 13:15) and that an “image of the beast” would also be present. He saw that this image would be separate from, yet likened to the beast himself.

Verse 15 clearly states that the beast will be able “to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.” This image is clearly much more than just a statue - the idea of giving life to an image that speaks seems to match the personification of holographic technology. One can safely assume that John, being from a day when technology such as we have now did not exist, struggled to describe exactly what he saw. The great debate is how literally do we take this passage or should some of it be understood in a more symbolic way?

Is it possible John may have seen holographic projections of the beast leader, which could “appear” as if by magic in multiple locations at once. In fact, in translation, the Greek word 'image' could mean image or likeness. And that is exactly what a holographic projection is! It is an image or likeness of the person's appearance being projected somewhere else.

Are we being conditioned for a technology that will be used by the Antichrist in order to reach masses of people at one time?

Interestingly enough Revelation emphasizes that it is by deceit that the people of the earth are brought about to worship this image and the Beast. In an age of digital manipulation - air brushing movie stars on magazine covers is just the tip of the iceberg. In 1997 the film "Wag the Dog" demonstrates how with a little Hollywood ingenuity people could be led to believe in an entirely fake war - all because they see it on TV. Is it possible the great signs of this 2nd beast are through technology rather than the supernatural? Only time will tell.

Such an expression makes one think of science-fiction, with its predictions that we will incorporate all sorts of mechanical and electronic implements within our bodies at some point in the near future, and that this will become normal practice. Indeed, with the technology already available to implant microchips into the human body, and technologies such as Google Glass blurring the distinction between man and machine, such concepts as trans-humanism are not merely the preserve of science-fiction novels. One of the foremost writers on futurism, Ray Kurzweil, has already predicted that once the technological singularity is reached, human-beings will willingly merge with artificial intelligence to create a race of essentially super beings.

A British boy has become the first individual in Britain to receive a special implant which allows the young child to walk unaided. The boy in question, Eddy Parry, was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer at a very young age, and was sadly forced to have his leg amputated. This unique surgery has resurrected his physical ability, though, and now Eddy is able to walk thanks to what he calls his 'robot leg'.

One of the foremost writers on futurism, Ray Kurzweil, has already predicted that once the technological singularity is reached, human-beings will willingly merge with artificial intelligence to create a race of essentially super beings. The singularity refers to the point at which artificial intelligence exceeds that of human intelligence, and Kurzweil believes that such a time is not far away at all.

Others have dismissed this view and such concerns, though. The infamous linguist and political commentator, Noam Chomsky, has suggested that the singularity is absolutely science-fiction, at least for the time being. Chomsky believes that the creation of a super-intelligent form of artificial intelligence, which even comes close to human intelligence, is inconceivable at present, due to how little we know about how human intelligence actually works. After all, it is human intelligence that will have to build artificial intelligence, no matter how far it develops once this initial process has been completed.

Whichever one of these prognostications is correct, the concept of merging human and machine, particularly with regard to something so fundamental to our identity as our thought processes, is very scary for some. And understandably so. While the future direction of artificial intelligence has yet to be decided, what can be demonstrated by this transplant is that the merging of the human and the artificial need not be viewed as something threatening, as in the right context it can certainly enhance our existence and quality of life. This must be borne in mind as much as we consider the potential dangers of such technology.

Is the pope systematically undermining Church teachings and replacing them with new world order doctrines

As Petrus Romanus the Final Pope is Here co-written by myself and Thomas Horn was recently released in a new edition, recent actions by Pope Francis necessitate a response. Of course, his arrival was controversial. Pope Benedict XVI’s February 11, 2013 announcement was unprecedented because the last pope to resign was Gregory XII in 1415 nearly six hundred years ago. We did not venture this hypothesis uninformed. In his book, Pope Benedict XVI Light of the World, when asked if he thought it appropriate for a pope to retire he responded:

“If a pope clearly realizes that he is no longer physically, psychologically and spiritually capable of handling the duties of his office, then he has a right and, under some circumstances, also an obligation to resign.”

We correlated Pope Benedict’s predisposition to retire with the work of the Jesuit scholar Rene Thibaut who predicted the final pope on Malachy’s list would arrive in April of 2012. Of course, the year 2012 came and went with seemingly no fulfillment. Consequently, we were a little disappointed when it seemed like Thibaut was mistaken. As it turns out, Thiabut was far more correct—astoundingly so—than anyone would ever imagine until February 2013! According to the NY Times:

That the resignation was long in the planning was confirmed by Giovanni Maria Vian, the editor of the Vatican newspaper, L’Osservatore Romano, who wrote on Monday that the pope’s decision “was taken many months ago,” after his trip to Mexico and Cuba in March 2012, “and kept with a reserve that no one could violate.”

In other words, Pope Benedict officially and secretly resigned right when Thibaut—and we—speculated he would in 2012, and then his February 11, 2013 public affirmation was quickly punctuated by a dramatic lightning bolt striking St. Peter’s basilica. Indeed, it came to pass and many former skeptics began to take Petrus Romanus seriously.

According to the prophecy of St. Malachy, Peter the Roman has arrived. Pope Francis, formerly known as Jorge Mario Bergoglio the son of Italian immigrants to Argentina, has assumed the 112th position on Malachy’s famous list. While shallow skeptics were quick to point out “his name is not Peter” their complaint betrays ignorance and a lack of imagination. 

We stated from the beginning that the title “Peter the Roman” was symbolic. All popes claim apostolic succession from Peter and for this reason it is called the Petrine office. They claim to sit on the chair of St. Peter and in this way all popes are Peters. For instance, this Tom Horn interview by World Net Daily prior to Pope Francis election:

Regardless, Horn said he’s always maintained that it doesn’t take someone whose Christian name is Peter to fulfill the prophecy. “In fact, if any Italian is elected, that would be a fairly transparent fulfillment,” he said. Moreover, he argued, “in a very general sense, every pope could be regarded as ‘Peter the Roman,’ and in that sense, this could be the last one.”

Scholars who study the prophecy unanimously come to a similar conclusion—that the title “Petrus Romanus” (Peter the Roman) was symbolic and not indicative of a birth name. Over 60 years ago, Thibaut similarly rejected the possibility of a pope literally named Peter and wrote that the name symbolized the totality of the papacy:

We therefore reject the Roman appointed Peter as the impossible Peter II. There is only one Peter, the first of the Roman pontiffs, and he saw in his many successors. He still to serve in the final as in the first persecution. We believe Petrus Romanus represents all the Roman Pontiffs from St. Peter to the recipient Gloria Olivae.

In Thibaut’s reckoning all the ambitions and pretensions of the papal dynasty are now encompassed in one man, Pope Francis. Could this be the case? Perhaps it actually marks the dissolution of the papacy as Rome is judged in accord with “City of Seven Hills will be destroyed” at the culmination of the Malachy prophecy.

The Argentine Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio has chosen Francis as his papal name, a first in tribute to Francis of Assisi. 

It is noteworthy that St. Francis of Assisi’s long Italian name is Francesco di Pietro di Bernardone, a title that can accurately be viewed as “Peter the Roman” from the final line in the Prophecy of the Popes. Since the phrase that supplanted the birth name Giovanni is Francesco diPietro, and that by sainthood, it is safe to say that by choosing Francis of Assisi’s name, he in effect chose Francesco di Pietro, and he is unlikely to prefer truncation of the Pietro element since Catholicism esteems Peter as the rock of the church and spuriously maintains he was the first pope. 

Rome was an empire and a city so Bergoglio’s Italian ancestry arguably meets the Roman aspect in a similar way. Accordingly, many argue that Bergoglio has fulfilled the Peter the Roman title with his choice of papal name.

As the 2013 conclave concluded Bergoglio said he chose the original papal name Francis after St. Francis of Assisi when Cardinal Claudio Hummes exhorted him to “remember the poor.” The reader might recall that our book Petrus Romanus cited an apocalyptic prediction by Pope Francis’ namesake, made soon after St. Malachy’s Prophecy concerning a Final Pope:

“At the time of this tribulation a man, not canonically elected, will be raised to the Pontificate, who, by his cunning, will endeavor to draw many into error and death… Some preachers will keep silence about the truth, and others will trample it under foot and deny it…for in those days Jesus Christ will send them not a true Pastor, but a destroyer.”

Was there something uncannonical about the election of Pope Francis? Well for starters, Pope Benedict XVI’s retirement makes for an unprecedented situation. When a pope is elected, the Church expects that he will remain in office until his death. I wonder what its like to be infallible one day and wake up fallible the next? Before now, only five popes unambiguously resigned with historical certainty, all between the tenth and fifteenth centuries. Arguably, that makes Bergoglio’s election suspect but, apparently, not a violation of cannon law. While Pope Francis represents many firsts, overall, the most interesting aspect is his status as the first ever Jesuit Pope.

The whistle blower insider, Malachi Martin, former Jesuit and advisor to three popes, who wrote a best-selling expose, The Jesuits: The Society of Jesus and the Betrayal of the Roman Catholic Church, accusing the order of systematically undermining Church teachings and replacing them with new world order doctrines. The first lines of the book state:

A state of war exists between the papacy and the Religious Order of the Jesuits—the Society of Jesus, to give the Order its official name. That war signals the most lethal change to take place within the ranks of the professional Roman clergy over the last thousand years. And, as with all important events in the Roman Catholic Church, it involves the interests, the lives, and the destinies of ordinary men and women in their millions.

It seems rather obvious that the first Jesuit pope (Pope Francis) indicates the Jesuits won that war and to the victors go the spoils. Most probably a new level of ecumenism that will culminate in the one world religion, after all, the word catholic means “universal.” 

We suggest he could be the biblical false prophet “Then I saw another beast rising out of the earth. It had two horns like a lamb and it spoke like a dragon” (Revelation 13:11). In regard to “horns like a lamb,” we expect Pope Francis may first usher in a new liberalized ecumenism rather than hard core old line papal domineering. New details are coming out daily but as of this writing, the media are reporting that Cardinal Bergoglio supported homosexual unions in Argentina as a “lesser of evils” solution to that countries homosexual lobby.

Interestingly, the Pope also criticized conservative Catholics for protesting abortion and same-sex marriage. When asked about homosexual priests who had infiltrated the Roman system he replied,“Who am I to judge?” startling words from the so-called vicar of Christ. He also implied atheists can be saved by obeying their conscience. 

As a result, secular humanists, abortionists and homosexuals are beside themselves with joy. Even more offensive to traditional Catholics, Pope Francis gave communion to infant holocaust perpetrators Joseph Biden and Nancy Pelosi. A priest expressed his disgust, “At a Mass during which our new Pope emphasized the duty public officials – and all the rest of us – have to protect the weakest among us, Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi have the audacity to receive Communion while publicly renouncing their responsibility to protect the weakest among us.” Yet, it is not the audacity of the two baby murdering politicians that is in question; it is the utter lack of resolve displayed by Pope Francis. Ron Paul: "If You Like The Surveillance State, You’ll Love E-Verify"

From massive NSA spying, to IRS targeting of the administration's political opponents, to collection and sharing of our health care information as part of Obamacare, it seems every day we learn of another assault on our privacy. Sadly, this week the Senate took another significant, if little-noticed, step toward creating an authoritarian surveillance state. Buried in the immigration bill is a national identification system called mandatory E-Verify.

The Senate did not spend much time discussing E-Verify, and what little discussion took place was mostly bipartisan praise for its effectiveness as a tool for preventing illegal immigrants from obtaining employment. It is a tragedy that mandatory E-Verify is not receiving more attention, as it will impact nearly every American’s privacy and liberty.

The mandatory E-Verify system requires Americans to carry a “tamper-proof” social security card. Before they can legally begin a job, American citizens will have to show the card to their prospective employer, who will then have to verify their identity and eligibility to hold a job in the US by running the information through the newly-created federal E-Verify database. The database will contain photographs taken from passport files and state driver's licenses. The law gives federal bureaucrats broad discretion in adding other “biometric” identifiers to the database. It also gives the bureaucracy broad authority to determine what features the “tamper proof” card should contain.

Regardless of one’s views on immigration, the idea that we should have to ask permission from the federal government before taking a job ought to be offensive to all Americans. Under this system, many Americans will be denied the opportunity for work. The E-Verify database will falsely identify thousands as "ineligible," forcing many to lose job opportunities while challenging government computer inaccuracies. E-Verify will also impose additional compliance costs on American businesses, at a time when they are struggling with Obamacare implementation and other regulations.

According to David Bier of Competitive Enterprise Institute, there is nothing stopping the use of E-Verify for purposes unrelated to work verification, and these expanded uses could be authorized by agency rule-making or executive order. So it is not inconceivable that, should this bill pass, the day may come when you are not be able to board an airplane or exercise your second amendment rights without being run through the E-Verify database.It is not outside the realm of possibility that the personal health care information that will soon be collected by the IRS and shared with other federal agencies as part of Obamacare will also be linked to the E-Verify system.

Those who dismiss these concerns as paranoid should consider that the same charges were leveled at those who warned that the PATRIOT Act could lead to the government collecting our phone records and spying on our Internet usage. Just as the PATRIOT Act was only supposed to be used against terrorists but is now used to bypass constitutional protections in matters having noting to do with terrorism or national security, the national ID/mandatory E-Verify database will not only be used to prevent illegal immigrants from gaining employment. Instead, it will eventually be used as another tool to monitor and control the American people.

The recent revelations of the extent of National Security Agency (NSA) spying on Americans, plus recent stories of IRS targeting Tea Party and similar groups for special scrutiny, demonstrates the dangers of trusting government with this type of power. Creation of a federal database with photos and possibly other “biometric” information about American citizens is a great leap forward for the surveillance state. All Americans who still care about limited government and individual liberty should strongly oppose E-Verify.

First Greek Orthodox Leader in Thousand Years to Attend Pope's Inaugural Mass

Edward Pentin reporting from Rome — When Pope Francis celebrates his inaugural Mass tomorrow, seated on his right will be cardinals, bishops and — for the first time in over 1,000 years at a Mass of this kind — the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople.

On his left will be heads of state and ministers including President Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe, Vice President Joe Biden and congresswoman Nancy Pelosi.

Delegations from 132 countries have confirmed their presence at the ceremony which officially marks the beginning of Pope Francis’s pontificate. These include six reigning sovereigns, 31 heads of state, three crown princes, 11 heads of government and many other dignitaries.

But the Vatican, keen to avoid accusations that it had invited the likes of Jesuit-educated Mugabe to the Mass, has stressed that no one received invitations. “The delegations are coming to Rome following information of the event made public by the [Vatican] Secretary of State,” said Vatican spokesman Fr. Federico Lombardi. “There were no 'invitations' sent out. All who wish to come are warmly welcomed.”

The liturgy in St. Peter’s Square is expected to be relatively simple and “not too long,” the Vatican said, and interestingly, Pope Francis will not be distributing holy communion. It’s not immediately clear why, but the Vatican seemed to infer it was to keep the Mass shorter and simpler.

Observers, however, believe it is so the Pope is not put in the awkward position of giving communion to Catholics such as Biden and Pelosi whose public positions on abortion are at odds with Catholic teaching. As cardinal, Pope Francis was categorical in disallowing holy communion to any who facilitated an abortion, politicians included.

Also seated close to the Pope will be Jewish and Muslim representatives and members of other religions, together with around 1,200 priests and seminarians as well as diplomats accredited to the Holy See and civil authorities.

The rest of the piazza is expected to be packed with pilgrims and tourists. The Vatican has said everyone is welcome, and no tickets are required. Rome authorities are preparing for up to a million people to attend the Mass, although the final number is expected to be lower.

Among those present tomorrow, perhaps the most remarkable is that of the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, Bartholomew I. It is the first time in over a thousand years that the Greek Orthodox leader has attended a papal inauguration and points to great improvements in Catholic-Orthodox relations in recent years.

Bartholomew — the spiritual leader of 250 million Orthodox faithful worldwide — has said he is attending the Mass to underscore the importance he attaches to "friendly ties" between the churches in a “new era.”

He also said his participation reflects expectations that Pope Francis will advance rapprochement efforts that began decades ago. "I am very hopeful in this matter," he said in an interview shortly before leaving for Rome.

Jesuit Father James McCann, rector of the Pontifical Oriental Institute in Rome said “it’s a wonderful, concrete sign of what we can develop in building Christian unity.”

Traditionally, delegations from both churches visit each other annually. Bartholomew also attended Pope John Paul II’s funeral in 2005. But this is an unprecedented event in modern times, and Bartholomew noted that even before the schism, a patriarch from Istanbul did not attend a papal inauguration.

“This relationship has been building over the years and certainly Benedict XVI’s pontificate was key,” said McCann, who recalled the patriarch’s visit to the Pontifical Oriental Institute — where Bartholomew studied for a doctorate — in 2008. The Orthodox had great respect for Benedict XVI, and particularly valued his approach to the liturgy.

The patriarch’s attendance is also helpful to the Orthodox Church in Istanbul. “It’s important for him to be visible as well,” said a Vatican official on condition of anonymity, “because Christians in Istanbul are very few — maybe 10,000 — and they are being pressured to leave Istanbul.” Attacks on Christians have risen recently as Turkey gradually moves away from a secular state and towards a more hard line Islamic one.

Pope Francis will enter St. Peter’s Square in the Popemobile shortly before 9am and travel around the square so the crowd will be able to see him up close.

Then, during the Mass, six representative cardinals will approach the Pope to make an act of obedience. This emphasis on obedience is new — one of the last acts of Benedict XVI and emblematic of his wish to foster unity around the successor of Peter. The cardinals who elected Pope Francis have already pledged to obey the Pope, at the end of the Conclave in the Sistine Chapel. And at the moment when the Pope “takes possession” of the Cathedral of Rome — the basilica of St. John Lateran — another act of obedience will be made, this time by representatives of the various members of the laity.

The Pope will give his homily in Italian and, as is becoming clear, he will probably include some spontaneous remarks.
