ISIL militants killed 770 Iraqi troops

Militants from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) group carried out a mass killing of hundreds of Iraqi soldiers captured when the extremists overran a military base north of Baghdad in June, a leading international watchdog said Wednesday.

The incident at Camp Speicher, an air base that previously served as a US military facility, was one of the worst atrocities perpetrated by the ISIL group in its lightning offensive that seized large swaths of northern and western Iraq.

According to Human Rights Watch, new evidence indicates the ISIL fighters killed between 560 and 770 men captured at Camp Speicher, near the city of Tikrit - a figure several times higher than what was initially reported.

"These are horrific and massive abuses, atrocities by the Islamic State, and on a scale that clearly rises to the crimes against humanity," Fred Abrahams, special HRW advisor, told media in Irbil on Wednesday.

The al-Qaida-breakaway claimed in mid-June that it had "executed" about 1,700 soldiers and military personnel from Camp Speicher. The group also posted graphic photos that appeared to show its gunmen massacring scores of Iraqi soldiers after loading the captives onto flatbed trucks and then forcing them to lie face-down in a shallow ditch, their arms tied behind their backs.

The grisly images, meant to sap the morale of Iraqi security forces, and the number of slain troops could not be confirmed at the time. Human Rights Watch said in late June that analysis of photos and satellite image showed that between 160 and 190 men were killed in at least two locations between June 11 and 14.

After the incident, the soldiers were listed as missing, prompting their families to stage demonstrations in Baghdad in an effort to pressure authorities for word on their sons' fate. On Tuesday, dozens of their angry family members stormed into the parliament in Baghdad's fortified Green Zone after scuffling with security guards, causing commotion and arguing with lawmakers. They also forced the speaker to call a session for Wednesday on the missing soldiers.

The Human Rights Watch statement on Wednesday said the revised figure for the slain soldiers was based on analysis of new satellite imagery, militant videos and a survivor's account that confirmed the existence of three more mass execution sites. The number of victims may well be even higher as more evidence emerges, the New York-based watchdog said.

"Another piece of this gruesome puzzle has come into place, with many more executions now confirmed," said Peter Bouckaert, emergencies director at Human Rights Watch. "The barbarity of the ISIL violates the law and grossly offends the conscience."

Also Wednesday, the UN envoy in Iraq called for a "public and independent" investigation by Iraqi authorities into the fate of the missing soldiers and the recovery of the remains of those killed.

"It is in the interest of their families and relatives, who remain unaware of the fate of their loved ones, as well as in the public interest, that the Iraqi authorities do all they can to uncover the truth of what has happened to these men," said Nickolay Mladenov.

The investigation is needed "to locate and identify the remains of any who may have been killed, and to undertake all efforts to secure the release of any who may remain in captivity," Mladenov said.

Outgoing Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki claimed Wednesday during his weekly address to the nation that a number of "perpetrators" of Camp Speicher atrocities have been arrested or killed and that "security forces were pursuing" others. Al-Maliki did not elaborate.

The onslaught by the ISIL group has stunned Iraqi security forces and the military, which melted away and withdrew as the extremists advanced, capturing key cities and towns. The militants also targeted Iraq's indigenous religious minorities, including Christians and followers of the ancient Yazidi faith, forcing tens of thousands from their homes.

Since then, the ISIL has carved out a self-styled caliphate in the large area straddling the Iraqi-Syrian border that it now controls.
In early August, the United States launched airstrikes on the militant group in Iraq, in an effort to help the Iraqi forces fight back against the growing militant threat.

Also this week, the United Nations' top human rights body approved a request by Iraq to open an investigation into suspected crimes committed by the ISIL group against civilians. Its aim would be to provide the Human Rights Council with evidence on atrocities committed in Iraq, which could be used as part of any international war crimes prosecution.

Ebola continues to spread an an exponential rate.  According to the World Health Organization, 40 percent of all Ebola cases have happened in just the last three weeks.  At this point, the official numbers tell us that approximately 3,500 people have gotten the virus in Africa and more than 1,900 people have died.  

That is quite alarming, but the real problem will arise if this disease continues to spread at an exponential pace.  One team of researchers has used computer modeling to project that the number of Ebola cases will reach 10,000 by September 24th if current trends continue.  And if the spread of Ebola does not slow down, we could be dealing with 100,000 cases by December.  Even the WHO is admitting that the number of cases is likely to grow to 20,000 before too much longer, and global health officials are now starting to use apocalyptic language to describe this outbreak.

For people in the western world that have never seen anything like this other than in the movies, it can be difficult to grasp just how horrible this epidemic truly is.  In the areas of west Africa where Ebola is spreading, fear and panic are everywhere, food shortages are becoming a serious problem and there have been reports of dead bodies rotting in the streets.  People are avoiding hospitals and clinics because of paranoia about the fact that so many health workers have contracted the disease.  According to the World Health Organization, more than 240 health workers have gotten the virus so far and more than 120 of themhave perished.

We have never seen anything like this in any of our lifetimes, and the scary part is that this might only be just the beginning.

Despite all of these warnings, a lot of people in the western world are not too concerned about this epidemic because they have faith that our advanced technology will prevent a widespread Ebola outbreak in the United States and Europe.

But I wouldn't be so certain about that.

So far, the most promising experimental Ebola drug seems to be ZMapp.  In clinical trials, it has been doing very well on monkeys.

However, it hasn't turned out to be a silver bullet for humans so far.  Two out of the seven people that have received ZMapp have died, and as CBS News recently explained, current supplies are exhausted and it takes a really long time to make more of this stuff...

ZMapp’s maker, Mapp Biopharmaceutical Inc., of San Diego, has said the small supply of the drug is now exhausted and that it will take several months to make more. The drug is grown in tobacco plants and was developed with U.S. government support.

Kobinger said it takes about a month to make 20 to 40 doses at a Kentucky plant where the drug is being produced. Officials have said they are looking at other facilities and other ways to ramp up production, and Kobinger said there were plans for a clinical trial to test ZMapp in people early next year.

The cold, hard truth is that Ebola is a brutally efficient killer for which we do not have a cure at the moment.

And what makes things even more complicated is that a different strain of Ebola is now spreading in the Democratic Republic of Congo.  A treatment that works for one strain of Ebola may not work on another strain.

So let us hope and pray that Ebola does not reach the United States.

If it does, it could potentially spread like wildfire.

France halts warship delivery to Russia

France's announcement came hours after Vladimir Putin unveiled a plan to end the Ukrainian conflict [Reuters]

France has suspended the delivery of the first of two Mistral-class warships to Russia "until November" after fierce criticism from its allies given the crisis in Ukraine.

Paris agreed in 2011 to build and sell the two advanced helicopter assault ships to Russia for a total of 1.2 billion euros ($1.6 billion), with the first scheduled for delivery in October or November and the second in 2015.

French leaders had refused to back down on a sale seen as crucial to a country suffering from stagnant growth and record unemployment, despite widespread condemnation due to Russia's alleged involvement in the Ukraine crisis. Kiev accuses Russia of fomenting the rebellion in Ukraine's east, a charge that Moscow denies.

"The President of the Republic declared that, despite the prospect of a ceasefire, the conditions for France to deliver the first warship are not to date in place," Francois Hollande's office announced on Wednesday, on the eve of a major NATO summit in Wales.

The statement came just hours after Russian President Vladimir Putin unveiled a plan to end the four-month war in the former Soviet republic, calling on pro-Kremlin rebels and government forces to cease fire and agree to the broad terms of a truce.

However, Ukraine's president immediately rejected the plan as an attempt to deceive the West about Moscow's real intentions.

"This latest plan is another attempt to pull the wool over the eyes of the international community ahead of the NATO summit and an attempt to avert the EU's inevitable decision to unleash a new wave of sanctions against Russia," Petro Poroshenko said in a statement.

US President Barack Obama, on a highly symbolic visit to former Soviet republic and new NATO member Estonia, said it was "too early to tell" if the ceasefire deal would hold on the ground.

His trip comes one day ahead of a NATO summit in Wales, where the military alliance will discuss Ukraine's crisis.

The first point of the Russian's president's plan is a "halt to active offensive operations by military forces and armed rebel units" around the rebel strongholds of Donetsk and Lugansk, Putin said in televised comments during a visit to the Mongolian capital Ulaanbaatar.

The roadmap also calls for a withdrawal by Ukrainian forces to positions from which they cannot shell cities, and a halt to air strikes by Kiev's military.

The blueprint also calls for deploying international observers to monitor a ceasefire, the unconditional release of all prisoners, the establishment of corridors for refugees and humanitarian aid, and the dispatch of aid to rebuild infrastructure in Donetsk and Luhansk, which have been the brunt of intense fighting.

"I believe that a final agreement between the authorities of Kiev and southeastern Ukraine can be reached and cemented during a meeting of the Contact Group on September 5," said Putin.

Russia to Hold Large-Scale Strategic Rocket Drills in September

MOSCOW, September 3 (RIA Novosti) – The Russian Defense Ministry announced on Wednesday that it will hold large-scale strategic missile exercises with more than 4,000 personnel and over 4,000 pieces of hardware and aviation in September.

“In compliance with the plans of training the Strategic Rocket Forces in September 2014, large-scale command exercises will be held with the Barnaul Missile Division [in the Altai Region],” Maj. Dmitry Andreyev, a spokesman for the Defense Ministry’s Strategic Rocket Forces, said.

“There will be more than 4,000 military personnel and around 400 pieces of hardware involved in the exercises,” Andreyev said.

Twelve missing commercial jets may now be deployed as weapons against U.S. cities

On March 24 of this year, I wrote a story entitled Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 now clearly a government cover-up: All evidence contradicts official story.

In that story, I wrote:

...it now seems increasingly likely that the Flight 370 aircraft has, indeed, been delivered to a rogue nation where it is being transformed into a weapon. Whoever took control of Flight 370 now has a massive stealth weapon which an incredibly long flight range. This aircraft can now be outfitted with nuclear weapons and dispatched to almost any desirable target anywhere in the world, including cities like New York and Washington D.C., unfortunately.

Today, U.S. intelligence officials repeated my warning almost word for word.

As Bill Gertz of the Free Beacon is now reporting, 11 commercial airliners have gone missing in Tripoli, and U.S. intelligence officials are now openly warning that those jets could be weaponized to launch terrorism attack on U.S. cities.

"...western intelligence agencies recently issued a warning that the jets could be used in terrorist attacks across North Africa," reports the Free Beacon. "Intelligence reports ...included a warning that one or more of the aircraft could be used in an attack later this month on the date marking the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks against New York and Washington, said U.S. officials familiar with the reports.

Read that again and you will see that the military intelligence warning is almost a word-for-word description of what I wrote here on Natural News over five months ago, including the exact sequence and names of two U.S. cities.

When I first wrote my story earlier this year, I remember being criticized for suggesting such "wild conspiracy theories." (Only incredibly stupid people use the phrase "conspiracy theory" as a flippant condemnation because, of course, all terrorist attacks are conspiracies by definition.)

As Natural News readers have since learned, a huge number of things I write about here on Natural News are months or years ahead of their time. They sometimes seem strange or unusual at first glance, but more often than not they turn out to be very credible and almost prophetic.

Intelligence officials are concerned about jetliner attacks on 9/11

"The official said the aircraft are a serious counterterrorism concern because reports of terrorist control over the Libyan airliners come three weeks before the 13th anniversary of 9/11 attacks and the second anniversary of the Libyan terrorist attack on the U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi," reports the Free Beacon.



There are numerous ways in which a commercial aircraft could be outfitted with weapons and launched against major U.S. cities. I will not detail them here for obvious reasons, but as a qualified aircraft pilot and a high-IQ laboratory director, I can immediately think of at least five specific airborne threat tactics which the U.S. needs to defend against. I hope they've thought of them all and are taking necessary precautions. Although in all seriousness, there are some attack scenarios which are virtually impossible to stop.

Aircraft squawk identifiers, for example, can easily be spoofed. That's not any sort of top secret information: every qualified pilot knows this. In nearly all aircraft, in fact, the pilot simply types in whatever squawk code he wants. It's a four-digit code, and "1200" is a generic VFR squawk code used by hundreds of general aviation aircraft on any given day. Unfortunately, an inbound jetliner with evil intent could quite readily request traffic vectors for a large U.S. airport and actually be guided right into the final approach glide slope by air traffic control.

I'm not sure there are any security measures in place to detect terror intentions in time to stop the aircraft from deploying weapons above U.S. cities. I do know the U.S. military will scramble fighter jets to escort suspicious aircraft, but even their engagement protocols might actually make things worse in some circumstance. For example, what if the commercial jet is loaded with "dirty bomb" radioactive waste material? Shooting down the jet would only cause those materials to be dispersed into the air, potentially worsening the incident rather than de-escalating it.

As U.S. intelligence authorities no doubt realize, if a flight crew of terrorists is willing to die in order to deliver their weapons, there is not much which can be done to stop them. You can't force an aircraft to land unless you physically shoot out the engines, in which case you are risking a massive explosion of the entire aircraft and whatever might be onboard. Shooting out the engines, after all, will often result in a fiery explosion for the simple reason that all the jet fuel is stored in the wings. And those wings aren't bulletproof. At best, the U.S. military might hope to shoot down an enemy aircraft over a relatively uninhabited area, but such outcomes necessitate early detection and confirmation of the threat.

MH370 plus 11 more commercial jets are now missing

So what we have now is a grand total of 12 large commercial aircraft that have gone missing (that's MH370 plus 11 more that have gone missing from Tripoli). We have terrorist organizations around the world that are openly seeking to destroy America. On top of that, certain nations and terror groups obviously have easy access to weapons materials from several different fronts (biological, chemical, nuclear, etc.).

Senior military intelligence believes U.S. cities might be targeted by these weaponized aircraft on September 11. I don't think they have any specific intelligence claiming such attacks will take place, but they recognize the threat (as do I). With twelve jets, twelve U.S. cities could be simultaneously targeted by whatever weapons of mass destruction the terrorists can come up with. If only half of those attacks made it through, a six-city attack would still be absolutely devastating to America (which is what the terrorists want).

Because of flight path proximity, the most likely cities to be targeted by terrorists flying commercial jets would reside on the East Coast of the United States. Therefore, it's only logical to conclude that the most likely city targets would include New York, Washington D.C., Boston, Miami, Philadelphia and so on.
