Anti-Semitism on the march: Europe braces for violence

European cities are braced for violent clashes this weekend as people take to the streets to protest against Israeli military operations in Gaza.

Thousands of police are being deployed in cities across Europe with Berlin alone deploying 1,500 police officers in a response and authorities in Paris have sought to ban outright marches planned for this weekend.

The protests have triggered warnings that the spectre of anti-Semitism has returned to haunt Europe.

Protesters have attacked synagogues, smashed the windows of Jewish-owned business and torched others, in scenes disturbingly reminiscent of the 1938 Kristallnacht in France. The marchers have chanted “Jews to the gas chambers”, and Jewish people have been attacked on the streets of Berlin.

An 18-year-old Jewish man claimed on Friday he had been punched in the face in an unprovoked attack while wearing a skull cap in the centre of Berlin, in what would be the second such incident in less than a week.

Ebola Victim On The Run In West Africa Capital

It's gone from bad (Mapping Africa's "Totally Out Of Control" Ebola Epidemic)  to worse, (Head Doctor Fighting Africa's "Out Of Control" Ebola Epidemic Contracts The Virus), to much worse (Liberian Man Tested For Ebola In World's Fourth Most Populous City), to having run out of comparaitves - although we are leery of using a superlative just yet as we have a feeling Africa's Ebola's epidemic will deteriorate before it gets better. But the latest news is bad enough: as Reuters reported moments ago, Sierra Leone officials appealed for help on Friday to trace the first known resident in the capital with Ebola whose family forcibly removed her from a Freetown hospital after testing positive for the deadly disease.

How big is Sierra Leone's capital Freetown: just around 1 million inhabitants, so yes, things are suddenly very much uncontained.

Radio stations in Freetown broadcast the appeal on Friday to locate a woman who tested positive for the disease that has killed 660 people across Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone since an outbreak was first identified in February.

"Saudatu Koroma of 25 Old Railway Line, Brima Lane, Wellington," the announcement said. "She is a positive case and her being out there is a risk to all. We need the public to help us locate her."

Koroma, 32, a resident of the densely populated Wellington neighborhood, had been admitted to an isolation ward while blood samples were tested for the virus, Health ministry spokesman Sidi Yahya Tunis. The results came back on Thursday.

"The family of the patient stormed the hospital and forcefully removed her and took her away," Tunis said. "We are searching for her."

What is just as bad is that even without this latest shocking development, the death toll from the epidemic has already hit 660 according to the WHO, cited by AFP.

And now we await news out of the world's fourth largest city, Nigeria's capital Lagos, where a man collapsed at the airport and is now being tested whether he too had Ebola, and we are confused how the market is not trading at fresh all time highs following what is now a recreation of the plot of the movie Outbreak. Just consider how much GDP was created or not destroyed there.

Apple developing iWallet app that could act as a credit card

Apple is preparing to launch an 'iWallet' app allowing customers to easily for with theit mobile phone, it has been claimed.

The project is believed the already have Visa on board, and is expected to use the firm's Touch ID fingerprint sensor to verify a customer's identity.

The app could launch in the Autumn alongside Apple's new iPhone 6.

According to tech blog The Information, 'conversations between Apple and payments-industry companies have heated up in recent months.'

It claims 'several people briefed on the talks say that Apple executives have discussed launching a mobile “wallet” as soon as this fall for people to use their iPhones to pay for goods in physical stores.'

According to the report, new phones will include a ‘secure element’ to store such sensitive data.

The service will also run without any intervention by mobile phone firms.

Apple has told some partners its system would involve a so-called secured element in the phones—a piece of hardware where sensitive information such as a phone owner’s financial credentials can be stored.

This expected to be the same secure system currently used to store fingerprint information, which is also set to store health data.

Earlier this month Visa launched a new service called Visa Checkout that eliminates a few steps in online payment.

The company and its retailing partners, including Neiman Marcus, Pizza Hut, Staples and others, hope a quicker payout will lead to fewer abandoned shopping carts online.

As more customers shop on smaller screens like smartphones and tablets, the hassle of entering in credit card numbers and billing addresses is becoming a sticking point and payment processors have been working to find ways to simplify the process.

Visa has been working to expand its reach into the payments processing business with new products like Visa Checkout. 

The company is also opening a technology center in San Francisco in an effort to court mobile developers in the Bay Area tech community.

It plans to hire 100 new technology staffers for the center.

Evidence of Kiev Using Phosphorus Bombs

MOSCOW, July 25 (RIA Novosti) – Russia’s evidence that Kiev has used phosphorus bombs against civilians should force the international community to put pressure on the Ukrainian authorities and make them stop the punitive operation in the country’s east, Russian diplomat Konstantin Dolgov said Friday.

“This information should help prompt the world community to influence Kiev in putting an end to the punitive operation. The result is numerous casualties among the civilians,” the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Special Representative for Human Rights, Democracy and the Rule of Law wrote on Twitter.

Dolgov commented on the recent reports by the Russian Defense Ministry that Ukrainian troops used phosphorus ammunition during the attacks against independence supporters.

Earlier on Friday, a representative of Russia’s General Staff in an interview with Rossiya 24 channel said that Moscow has “reliable confirmation that phosphorus ammunition” in the populated areas of Ukraine.

Chief Surgeon of the Armed Forces of Russia Nikolai Efimenko said that the use of phosphorous bombs may have irreversible consequences on people and may also have a negative impact on the environment. Phosphorous poisoning may cause serious illnesses and even lead to death.

More Brits signing up to fight with jihadist militants in Iraq and Syria than for the UK Army Reserve

More British citizens signed up to fight in Iraq and Syria than joined the Army Reserve last year, it can be revealed.

Just 170 extra reservists enlisted over the past year - despite a Government target to boost the stand-by force by 11,000 by 2018.

But at the same time the brutal al-Qaeda inspired ISIS forces tearing through Iraq have been boosted by 'several hundred' Brits, ministers told MailOnline.

The terror organisation ISIS has wreaked havoc in Iraq and Syria. Ministers are increasingly concerned British-born recruits could return to the UK intent on carrying out attacks in the UK

Terror experts believe there could be as many as 500 Brits fighting alongside the jihadists in the Middle East for ISIS (Islamic State in Iraq and Syria).

A senior government minister said: ‘There is a real problem about people going in and being radicalised and then coming home. There are several hundred who have gone from Britain that we know of. It is a worry.

'To get to Iraq most of them will have to go through Syria, so the two are connected.’

Foreign Secretary William Hague yesterday admitted Brit will 'inevitably' be fighting alongside ISIS which he called the 'most violent and brutal militant group in the Middle East'.

He said the majority of Isis' members were Iraqi or Syrian but 'it also includes a significant number of foreign fighters among its ranks'.

Mr Hague said: 'As I have previously told this House, we estimate the number of UK-linked individuals fighting in Syria to include approximately 400 British nationals and other UK-linked individuals who could present a particular risk should they return to the UK.' He said 'some of these, inevitably' are 'fighting with' Isis.

Shadow defence secretary Vernon Coaker said he revelation was humiliating for the country and needed to be tackled.

Mr Coaker said: 'The government's own figures show more UK citizens are joining ISIS than signing up for the Armed Forces Reserves. This is shameful, embarrassing and will cause deep concern.

'We need to see action to ensure recruitment to the Armed Forces meets the targets set. Otherwise, Britain will be left with a dangerous capability gap.'

The Government has launched a campaign to recruit 11,000 new reservists to boost the size of the back-up force to 30,000 by 2018. But between April 2013 and April 2014 just 170 signed up
